Bright Star
This is an oil painting. The reason why I chose to paint an oil painting is because oil paintings can present rich feelings. The idea of loneliness is clearly expressed by making the surroundings greyish and blurred. First, in the background, the mountains are covered in snow, while in the foreground, the water washes around the human's shores. The most important subject – the bright star – is watching the whole scenery alone from the high night sky. By making the star as a single one in the enormous universe and the atmosphere as desolate as possible I mean to highlight the feeling of isolation.
Lurking among the bleak forest is a lone cottage standing at the foot of mountains. While alone, yet warm, a slight beam of light seems to shoot from the cottage. It is an earthly attempt to fight against the wide spread of loneliness. To stress this point, the cottage is purposely made the only object in this painting with strong colors. Its strong colors make the cottage on the ground a counterpart to the bright star in the sky. Through my painting, I wish to freeze the moment so that the small cottage shines forever under the never resting star. |
